Getting started

Set up your Kwill account

Create a Kwill account, name your business, pick your portal address, and add your first client — the four things that have to happen before you can send anything.

In the portal: The Kwill sign-in page › Sign up

What it is
Creating your workspace, naming your business and choosing the web address your clients will visit.
Why use it
Your business name and portal address appear on every proposal, invoice and page your clients see.
When
Once, before you send your first document.

Create your account

Your country choice is remembered only in the browser you signed up in. If you confirm your email on a different device, set your country later under Business › Business Settings.

  1. Enter your full name (optional), email and a password of at least 8 characters — or click Continue with Google.
  2. Pick your country (optional). Kwill then shows which ways of getting paid are available where you live.
  3. Click Create account. If Kwill asks you to confirm your email, click the link in that email and sign in.

Set up your portal

The first time you sign in, Kwill asks two questions: what to call your business, and what your portal address should be.

Your portal address is a subdomain of usekwill.com, such as yourname.usekwill.com. It is set during onboarding and cannot be changed afterwards, so choose carefully. On Studio and above you can add your own custom domain later.

What to do next

  • Add your first client. Every project, proposal, contract, invoice and form has to belong to one.
  • Add your logo and brand colour under Branding & Portal, so the portal looks like your business.
  • Connect Stripe or add bank transfer details under Business › Business Settings, so invoices can be paid.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to start using Kwill?
No. Every new workspace starts on the Free plan. You only enter payment details if you upgrade to Independent, Studio or Collective.
Can I sign up with Google?
Yes. Click Continue with Google on the sign-up or sign-in page. If you originally signed up with a password, use email and password instead — Kwill will not link the two for the same address.
Can I change my Kwill portal address later?
No. Your yourname.usekwill.com address is set during onboarding and is permanent. On the Studio plan and above you can add your own custom domain, such as clients.yourdomain.com, and serve the portal from there instead.
How do I change my Kwill password?
Sign out and use Forgot password? on the sign-in page. The new password needs at least 8 characters and must include a number. Changing it signs you out on every device.
How long does it take to set up Kwill?
Account creation and onboarding take a few minutes. Adding your logo and brand colour, connecting Stripe and adding your first client are each a one-off step you can do in any order afterwards.
